TASTING NOTE

Darjeeling Second Flush: The Sun-Drenched Maturity of the Himalayas

Darjeeling Second Flush is the second harvest of the year, carried out between May and June in the highlands of India. While the First Flush evokes the lightness of spring, the Second Flush is one of fullness. Bathed in sunlight, the leaves develop a deeper aromatic complexity, making this tea an essential experience for any connoisseur of fine teas.

The famous "Muscatel" aroma

The Second Flush is world-renowned for its unique flavor profile, often compared to the finest wines:

  • Notes of Muscat Grape: This is the absolute signature of this harvest. A sweet, fruity, and slightly spicy flavor that coats the palate.
  • Roundness and Indulgence: It reveals nuances of ripe fruit, forest honey, and sometimes a touch of toasted hazelnut.
  • A pronounced structure: Unlike spring harvests, this tea is more amber in color, denser, and offers a beautiful structure on the palate.
  • On the nose: Enchanting, with clear notes of Muscat grapes, precious woods, and honey.
  • On the palate: A round and warm attack. Fruitiness dominates, supported by a velvety texture and a persistent, malty finish.
  • Liqueur: A deep, brilliant, and clear coppery-orange color. Its rich and flavorful liqueur has earned it the nickname "Champagne of Teas" or even "Queen of Teas."

An exceptional tea for the afternoon

Thanks to its perfect balance of strength and finesse, Darjeeling Second Flush is the ideal companion for afternoon tea. It has enough body to complement pastries, while retaining an elegance that allows it to be enjoyed on its own, for the pure pleasure of its complex aromas.

Why choose Darjeeling Second Flush?

  • Unique aromatic signature: The only tea in the world capable of naturally producing this intensely Muscat aroma.
  • Superior quality: A rigorous selection of Lupicia teas from the region's finest gardens.
  • Perfect balance: Less vegetal than spring, more complex than autumn.

Preparation tips

To extract the full richness of this summer vintage:

  • Water temperature: 85°C - 95°C. Sustained heat is necessary to release the ripe fruit aromas and the structure of the black tea. Spring or filtered water is recommended.
  • Brewing time: 2 to 3 minutes. This allows the natural sweetness of the Muscat to develop without the astringency becoming overpowering.
  • Dosage: Use approximately 2,5g to 3g of tea (one heaped teaspoon) per 150ml of water.
  • Re-infusions: This tea can be infused up to 2 times. For subsequent infusions, you can slightly increase the temperature and reduce the brewing time to 30 seconds.
  • Enjoyment: Ideally enjoyed plain to appreciate the subtle aromas, its structure also pairs perfectly with a splash of milk for a creamier version.
