It stems from the Mino ware (Minoyaki) tradition, produced in the Tōnō region, in eastern Gifu Prefecture. Accounting for nearly 60% of ceramic tableware production in Japan, Minoyaki is now considered one of the pillars of Japanese ceramic art.
Rooted in over 1,300 years of history, Mino ware has its origins in the "Sueki" firing techniques, passed down from the Korean Peninsula. Since then, it has evolved while retaining the essence of its craftsmanship, to offer pieces that today fit naturally into everyday life. Without always knowing it, many Japanese families use Minoyaki on a daily basis.
