Teapot
This flat-shaped Japanese kyusu teapot, crafted by the renowned Gyokko tea factory in Tokoname, is designed to best reveal the natural umami of the tea.
The flat shape, designed for optimal leaf development
Its wide, shallow base allows the leaves to unfurl flat without overlapping, even with a small amount of water. This allows them to open more quickly and evenly than in a round teapot, resulting in a consistent infusion that quickly reveals the tea's full richness and smoothness.
The "CeraMesh" ceramic filter, for a pure infusion
The teapot features an integrated ceramic filter, called "CeraMesh," which contains no metal. Metallic odors are therefore not transferred to the tea, preserving the purity of the delicate aromas of Japanese tea.
Kokudei black clay, for a smoother cup
The iron-rich red clay typical of Tokoname is fired in a reducing atmosphere, meaning with limited oxygen, to achieve a beautiful black color. The clay's porous structure helps to soften unwanted notes and the excessive astringency of catechins, resulting in a surprisingly smooth and rounded mouthfeel.
Understated elegance adorned with the traditional "biri" pattern
The surface is decorated with the traditional "biri" pattern, engraved by the artisan using a special tool on the rotating piece. These fine, repeated lines create a delicate relief and a restrained elegance, perfectly suited to contemporary tables.
