TASTING NOTE
Matcha Genmaicha Kaimon : The Harmony of Green Tea and Roasted Rice
Kaimon Genmaicha Matcha is an iconic creation from Lupicia, a tea house originating in Kagoshima Prefecture. This traditional Japanese blend combines the vegetal base of high-quality green tea, the indulgence of puffed brown rice (Genmai), and the visual and flavor intensity of Matcha powder.
Did you know?
The name Kaimon often evokes Mount Kaimon in Kagoshima, a region famous for its exceptional green teas. This blend is particularly appreciated at breakfast or after a meal for its soothing properties and richness in nutrients.
Flavor profile
"Kaimon" is distinguished by its perfect balance. From the moment the bag is opened, notes of roasted grains and hazelnut mingle with the herbaceous freshness of the green tea.
- Visually: A deep jade-green liquor, its color enhanced by the generous presence of Matcha that coats the tea leaves and Kirara rice.
- On the nose: Warm aromas of popcorn and toast, the hallmark of expertly roasted tea.
- On the palate: A smooth and creamy initial taste. The rice brings a sweetness that balances the subtle bitterness of the green tea, while the Matcha prolongs the finish with a lingering Umami note.
Why choose Kaimon Matcha Genmaicha?
More than just a tea, Kaimon is a complete sensory experience, ideal for moments of relaxation or to accompany a Japanese meal.
- Certified Origin: Grown and blended in Japan, respecting Lupicia's quality standards.
- Versatility: Excellent hot, it is also perfect as iced tea or even as a Matcha Genmaicha Latte for those with a sweet tooth.
- Iconic packaging: Available in bulk or in our famous illustrated metal tins, perfect for gifting or keeping the leaves fresh.
Preparation Tips
Preparing Matcha Genmaicha requires a few specific steps to ensure the green tea powder is evenly distributed in your cup:
- Temperature: Use water at 80°C - 85°C. Water that is too hot will mask the sweetness of the rice and could alter the vibrant color of the Matcha.
- Brewing Time: Be quick! 30 to 60 seconds is sufficient. Any longer and the astringency of the green tea may become overpowering.
- Dosage: Use approximately 3g to 4g of tea (one heaped teaspoon) per 150ml of water.
- Re-infusions: Like all high-quality green tea, this tea can be brewed up to 2 times. For subsequent infusions, you can slightly increase the temperature and reduce the brewing time to 30 seconds.
- The Key Step: When serving your tea, make sure to divide the liquid evenly between the cups if you are serving several. The last few drops are the richest in matcha.
The excellence of Kirara rice: the secret to our deliciousness
Kaimon's unique aromatic signature comes from the use of Kirara rice, a premium Japanese rice variety originating from Hokkaido. Renowned for its crystalline luster (hence its name Kirara, which evokes a shimmering effect), this rice has an ideal starch content which, once roasted and puffed, develops notes of toasted hazelnuts and warm bread that are far more intense than standard rice varieties.Combined with the delicate flavor of green tea, Kirara rice brings a natural sweetness and a roundness on the palate that make Kaimon an exceptional tea, as nutritious as it is comforting.
