NAGOMI

Hôjicha Green tea | Japan

TASTING NOTE

Nagomi: The Indulgent Harmony of Pear and Caramel

Nagomi tea is an invitation to unwind. This original creation is based on Hojicha (roasted Japanese green tea), whose naturally woody notes are enhanced by an irresistible duo of pear and caramel. It's the ultimate comfort tea, evoking the sweetness of a fruity pastry enjoyed by the fireside.

Aromatic Profile

This blend is distinguished by its smoothness and complete absence of bitterness:

  • The Hojicha base: The tea leaves are roasted at a high temperature, giving them aromas of hazelnut, toasted bread, and cocoa. This process also naturally reduces the caffeine content.
  • The juicy pear: It provides a fresh and delicately sweet top note, reminiscent of sun-ripened autumn fruits.
  • Smooth caramel: It ties everything together with a rich, vanilla finish, transforming each sip into a caress for the palate.

Why choose Nagomi tea?

  • Ideal for the evening: Thanks to its Hojicha base, it contains very little caffeine. It's the perfect infusion to end the day on a sweet note without impacting your sleep.
  • Well-being and digestion: Roasted tea is renowned in Japan for its gentleness on the digestive system, making it an excellent after-meal companion.
  • Zero calories, maximum pleasure: Enjoy the indulgence of a pear-caramel dessert in a healthy and natural beverage.

Preparation tips

Nagomi is a rich tea that holds up very well to high temperatures:

  • Water temperature: 85°C - 95°C. Very hot water allows the full aromatic power of the caramel and roasted tea to be released.
  • Infusion time: 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes. A quick infusion is all it takes to obtain a fragrant, amber-colored liqueur.
  • Dosage: Use approximately 2,5g to 3g of tea (one heaped teaspoon) per 150ml of water.
  • Serving suggestion: Excellent neat, it can also be prepared as a latte (with a splash of milk) to enhance its creamy, dessert-like profile.

Specifications

  • Ingredients: Roasted green tea, rose petals, marigold, aroma
  • Type of tea and origin: Green tea from Japan
  • Can be re-infused: 1 - 2 times

  • Hojicha: The Art of Roasted Green Tea

Hojicha (ほうじ茶) holds a unique place in Japanese culture. Unlike most of the country's green teas, which are appreciated for their vegetal freshness and notes of freshly cut grass, hojicha is a tea that has been roasted at a high temperature.

    A Craft Born in Kyoto

This roasting technique originated in Kyoto in the 1920s. Initially, it was used to enhance the flavor of tea leaves harvested later (bancha) or stems (kukicha). The leaves are roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal at approximately 200°C (392°F). This process transforms their color from green to a deep amber brown and releases an irresistible smoky aroma.

    A Rich Aromatic Profile

Roasting radically alters the chemical structure of the tea leaf. By burning the catechins responsible for bitterness, it releases notes found in no other green tea:

    • Hazelnut and toasted grains: A flavor reminiscent of toasted bread or burning wood.
    • Caramel and cocoa: Naturally sweet and smooth nuances, without any astringency.
    • Umami: A soothing and lingering roundness on the palate.

    The ultimate "Health Tea"

Hojicha is particularly prized for its wellness benefits, often surpassing those of other hot beverages:

    • Very low in caffeine: The high roasting temperature enhances the caffeine (theine). With only about 7.7 mg of caffeine per cup (compared to 95 mg for coffee), it is the ideal tea for children, those with sensitivities, or for a soothing evening treat.
    • Soothing properties: The presence of L-theanine helps reduce mental stress by calming nerves and muscles. Inhaling the tea's steam during brewing also acts as a relaxing form of aromatherapy.
    • Digestive friend: In Japan, it is traditionally served after meals because it is very gentle on the stomach and aids digestion.
  • Lupicia's tasting tip

Hojicha is a rich and easy-to-prepare tea. Unlike Sencha, which requires a precise temperature, Hojicha thrives with piping hot water (90°C to 95°C) to instantly release its woody aromas.

Why choose it? It's the perfect alternative for coffee lovers who want to reduce their stimulant intake without sacrificing the pleasure of roasted and toasted flavors.

Why is Nagomi tea the ideal ambassador for Hojicha?

By choosing Nagomi tea, you're not just discovering a roasted green tea; you're accessing a rare sensory experience that magnifies the full potential of Japanese Hojicha.

    • Proven serenity: Thanks to its extremely low caffeine content (only 7.7 mg per cup compared to 95 mg for coffee), Nagomi is your ally for peaceful evenings. It offers the stable energy of L-Theanine without the jitters of coffee.
    • The comfort of a dessert without the calories: The combination of our high-quality Hojicha with the melting notes of caramel and pear creates a perfect "Nagomi" (harmony) balance. It's the ideal answer to your sweet tooth while taking care of your cardiovascular health and digestion.
    • A complete wellness ritual: Whether you prepare it hot at 90°C for an immediate comforting effect or as a cold infusion to reveal its nuances of caramel and biscuit, Nagomi transforms every cup into a natural aromatherapy session.
